There's nothing more central to Norfolk's rich aviation history than the fascinating role played by the RAF's 100 Group during the last 18 months of WW2. Based in North Norfolk, the Group's role was to reduce the losses suffered by Bomber Command's main force by a plethora of cunning means. Your Tiger Moth flying lesson takes off from Yarmouth Heliport, after which your hugely-experienced instructor will soon be guiding you on how to fly this ancient machine, itself used to train many wartime pilots. By the time you reach your first former 100 Group airfield, you'll be flying the machine yourself, but the chances are that your instructor will retain responsibility for navigation! Your route will be one of the following:
Tour One - With the former RAF Swannington in sight, you'll fly to Swanton Morley and Foulsham before turning for 100 Group's Headquarters at Blickling Hall, with the former RAF Oulton in sight along the way.
Tour Two (extended) - This tour takes in the former RAF airfields at Foulsham, Little Snoring and Langham (see if you can spot the superb Langham Dome museum!) before returning to Yarmouth along the North Norfolk coast, where you may be able to spot the former radio and radar stations so crucial to the war effort.
Should you wish, your instructor will demonstrate a loop or a barrel roll before landing on Yarmouth's grass, but only if you'd like that experience!
Flight Durations:
Tour One - One hour 10 mins
Tour Two - One Hour 20 mins
